All Things Ralph

UGHHHH....I really hate it when pathetic men or women for that matter go back to their pathetic previous love because they are A. Familiar, B. Stupid enough to take them back, C. have a house and he doesn't...who knows...

I really do hope these reports are some kind of plant in the press by some desperate PR exec working for the Francesca camp. Or maybe he's just ready to settle down and be a good boy now for his mommy.

Sorry, I'm feeling a bit mean today.

Write Stuff, you're not the only one who feels that way.

Bravo Brita! I actually read where a very sweet young lady reminded us that age is simply a number. I've seen many an example of this in life and relationships. We need to get out of these societal boxes.

I've also learned that you can't just blindly buy in to everything that is said by the media. Unless we're there to personally speak to the people involved how do we truly know what any argument, break-up or reunion is really about. If its true that two people have reconciled and they are happy in it, then good for them and be blessed in it! If the rumors are exaggerated than I hope that happiness is still there wherever they are at in their lives at this moment.

Well, there've been this amazing disussion about woman, sex, and age. It's neat and well-written, but I have a slightly different point of view.
I find tha the expression 'sea hag' might have made some feel uncomfortable, so I retract it.
As for the matter, an old man hooks up with a much younger girl than him is a kind of 'filthy old man', regardless the passion or what other names are used to put it neatly.
The girl who marries, or hooks up with, a much elder fellow, might have some father issues and a kind of lacking the feeling of being protected. Sometimes, it means that she's after his money and that's it.
The same goes for younger men with elder women as well. Men's sexual powers are more when they are younger, while the opposite goes for women, that's true. But a thirty years old woman with a young man of eighteen or sixteen. That's a kind of rape, and taking advantage of. I feel the same about Fiennes. He's in need, physically and emotionally, and that gives the other side the advantage. It isn't about sex, their relationship, otherwise he wouldn't have a two-year relationship with that singer! It's about other deep internal issues that go far beyond what appears.
Anyway, it's his life, and he's free to do whatever he wants to do with it. He can spend it with whoever he wants.. he can do whatever he wants, and I just hope for him to get out of the prison he locked himself in, and stand to face his own demons.

My issue with FA is really a self respect thing....would you take back your lover after he cheated on you with paid prostitutes and air hostesses and not even discreetly? I guess it just feels like she could do better and so could he...but I guess we all do like what's comfortable;-)

I definitely agree.

Mary, I re-read your post and noted 'paid prostitutes' and air hostesses. Hmmm....hmmmm...well, what a libido. I am no psychologist, however; remember when he left his wife? She had to read about his leaving...sounds like a desperate man wanting out of a 'relationship.' So, maybe, and I feel rather awful about saying this, maybe he is notcomfortable with 'to love' someone, which is a very active state as opposed to being loved. It's all about intimacy which includes sex but is not defined by it. Davey (who is now quietly retiring for the evening.)

That's very true Brita!

Mary! Tell us how you really feel! I'm a little out of the loop. Does the passionate feelings have anything to do with the Australian flight thingy? That did seem kinda...well...messy, but it is a l-0-n-g flight. But nuts to the airline who fired her. On another subject, On thanksgiving, my large family and I were playing the board game "scruples" and I (frequently) managed to bring up RF's name and my younger sister said smilingly "he's so naughty" and I replied "I know." We both laughed. He has the most glorious eyes I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot. On another subject, I again last night watched "Quiz Show" and his performance was so nuanced, poignant...it made me wonder if RF is the type of actor who desires a lot of direction? Redford directed this film and many actors, I believe feel comfortable with working with an "actors' director. Any thoughts?

Hey Davey...yes, Quiz Show was one of his most nuanced roles. Some people can't get past his accent, but I thought it passable. Quiz Show was so early in his film career, that I think he must have been heavily directed by Redford. My favorite scene is in my movies section. And I will argue it's the most layered in the film, no pun intended...when he's eating the cake with his Dad.

Why don't you start another thread about Quiz Show on the main forum?
THanks again,
Mary

HI, Mary....I knew the cake scene was your favorite. Upon seeing the movie again, I thought it interesting that as RF sat at the table, he pushed the plate towards him to eat and when his father came down to share, the father pushed the plate towards himself. The movie was criticized by Van Doren accolytes stating that the son/father relationship was warm and cordial, not filled with tension as in the movie. Yes, the accent is not correct IMO. There are so many Brit actors who in my mind have brilliantly mastered the American accent...Damien Lewis (Band of Brothers, etc.), Kenneth Brannagh, sp? (Dead Again), Christian Bale (The Machinist) - he is British, isn't he? I probably should start a new thread. Oh, of course Hugh Laurie, of House.

Hugh Laurie...probably one of the BEST i've heard...when I first discovered Hugh I honestly thought he was American until I did my googling on him and found out ! He's a terrific actor!!
