HBO telemovie doesn't look like it will win an Emmy this year. BUT, both Sarandon and
Fiennes give Star performances. OK the story is a simple one..and of course it couldn't have been any other way. Fiennes as the gay butler is extraordinary. Such a sensitive
performance. No limp- wrist stuff (thank God) he's too good for that. Wonder what the
Emmy panel's criteria are? Any thoughts.
I thought the performances In Bernard & Doris were brilliant and I never pay these awards shows any mind. Its just the opinions of a few people and their individual tastes. There have been so many times when performances I enjoy from Ralph and other really great actors have been unacknowledged. Its like reviews. They're just the opinions of one person or small group. While I always hope that Ralph will get great reviews and celebrate every nomination and award he does receive, I think its better not to put too much weight to any of it. From things I've read about him, I don't think he does, which is good.
Hi sheraton, Yes he does. In a voice light, true, and he doesn't slip 'out of role' either.
Just marvellous. I do not have the CD of the music from the film. I hope someone can
help you. :) (buy the DVD and tape it) :)
Yes he does Sheraton. His singing voice is a light contralto, true pitch, and he doesn't
'slip' out of role either. Just lovely. I don't have the CD of the music from this film, but
I hope someone can help you. (why not buy the DVD) :) and copy the song.
I found an article of Emmy nominations: Sarandons's name is stressed, but in his category Ralph is only nominated, but Paul Gervais is stressed. (I'm not American, never saw him)
Awards and merits seldom correspond.

Sheraton,
I've been searching high and low for a CD soundtrack for Bernard and Doris since it came out on DVD. I've had no luck. I love not only his singing but also Peggy Lee and the music that was composed for the movie. My search continues. I got really hopeful since it got such a good response and has Emmy nominations that they would put out a CD. I know it was shot on somewhat of a budget so I'm assuming that would be one of the reasons to not have made the CD.
Dear Dana,
here in Budapest we.know nothing about even HBO will play it or no, there are no articles and we don't know Peggy Lee who worked in the time of iron curtain. I like her music (and the film's whole music) very much. Ralph is enchanting when he sings 'I love the way' When you find this CD anywhere, please, let me know.
Many thanks
Zsuzsanna

I'll let you know if I ever do find it. I checked all over on line again today and didn't find anything. I'm almost to the point of writing an e-mail to HBO or to the studio that produced it and try that way -- or at least suggest it.
