I really liked Strange Days and would love to see Ralph lend his hand to more Sci-fi or Fantasy works. Often not taken seriously, true science fiction deals with a lot of issues in today's society and has attracted the talents of other great British actors with stage backgrounds such as Patrick Stewart and Ian Mckellen. Now I don't think a Star Trek uniform or a pointy hat is Ralph's scene.. but come on man.. there must be some thinking mans sci-fi out there that you've toyed with the idea of doing.. so go do it ;)
I think he's more nerd than geek sadly. Though we have heard of his obsession with phones, his utter disdain for computers (which runs in the family I think...read somewhere Joe hates them)...disappoints me...sigh...as an IT geek girl.
I agree that he should try his hand at a serious Sci-Fi film...something along the lines of Event Horizon...he could have played that part Sam Niel played. Bad but complex...he could do it. Maybe in one of the new Star Trek sequels...

I agree that Ralph would be great in a sci-fi story if a part came along that he liked. I doubt he'd want to get pinned down on a regular TV show. I think he loves the stage too much and he likes the flexibility and variety from movies. Maybe a mini-series or a recurring role. I've seen stage and screen actors do that quite a bit. I never saw 'Event Horizon' but heard it was a good story. Maybe if something like that came along at the right time. You never know.
I never thought of Lenny in 'Strange Days' as a wimp. He seemed more like a terribly love-sick puppy with an off-centered moral compass. : )
Mace struck me as a very centered and strong woman who could make grown men cry and still be a lady! : )
As to Ralph being a nerd....yup, possibly ....but he's the coolest one I know and I love him. : )

I have to admit something. I saw the guys who are being cast as Kirk and Spock for the new film. They were at The Golden Globe Awards. It may all turn out well, but right now I'm having a hard time picturing these kids in those roles.
Hopefully I'll be completely wrong and pleasantly surprised. : )
I was chatting with a friend the other day and he said Ralph really needs to play a vampire. Now if we can find an Oscar worthy vampire script...we'll have two threads happy on this forum!!!! But seriously...I know Anne Rice mentioned she wanted him or Rutger Hauer to play the role of Lestat in Interview with A Vampire...I wanted to slash my wrists when Tom Cruise got that role...I'm still pained by it. If it's a thinking man's vampire movie ala The Hunger...it would be the perfect sci-fi/fantasy role...Mindy, maybe he could do a remake of The Hunger...I wonder if Susan would approve...even better...maybe a remake of Life Force...with a male lead instead of female...SPACE VAMPIRE!!! the perfect realization...just kidding...but really...I hope something interesting comes Ralph's way this year in a form of sci-fi/fantasy too...good genre for him...
