Bernard and Doris, HBO Saturday Feb 9 , 8pm

Hi all,
Sorry I've been gone so much lately...getting ready to have surgery and other fun stuff. But I'll be convalescing for a few weeks after, so I'm hoping to come here and work on things a bit.

Here's the link to the HBO page about Bernard and Doris. http://www.hbo.com/films/

They have a whole mini site including videos and interviews:

I'm going to go set my DVR immediately. Talk to you all soon.

I can't believe no one has posted on this yet. I've been out on medical leave so not really up to much online here. I loved Bernhard and Doris. Ralph plays Doris Duke's gay butler. It's a different kind of love story. They both needed each other in different ways. I thought Ralph was excellent in the role...not too over the top. I mean if you have problems seeing Ralph as a gay character then don't watch it. Because at one point he does walk around in a pink silk caftan, earing, makeup, and pony tail...haha. But he played the role very tenderly, and Susan Sarandon was excellent as the brash, eccentric Doris. I think the film shows us that love can be present in all kinds of relationships, and they don't have to be the typical ones we think of to be fulfilling. Loved the movie...Go Ralph...maybe he'll get nominated for an Emmy:-)

I completely agree. The film was wonderful and Ralph was completely wonderful in it! I hope everyone gets a chance to see it. I believe I heard somewhere that it will be available on DVD. I'm not sure when, but possibly by this summer. : )

I saw everything I could reach on the web, (trailers clips , pics etc.) but Eastern -European HBO doesn't play it, so I didn't see the whole. He does something very interesting: he doesn't play homosexuality the usual way: high pitched voice , exaggerated female movements - it stems deeper. His voice is his original one, he is female in his soul, full of inhibitions. Perhaps rather asexual, transvestite than a mannifest gay. Someone who w a n t s to be a woman , this is the way he can realize himself. He loves Doris with true love, she is the paragon, who has power, is rich and his chief, he wants to be Doris. He plays a sweet being with a childish smile, he's humble and pitiable and ill due to his obsession to alcohol. He is uglified with the pad, but the performance is realistic: as alcoholists die from disease of the liver with abdominal dropsy. I can't wait to see it. Has anyone possibility to make a copy on a Region2 DVD and send me? ( of course on my expense) Maybe I reached bad copncélusions - then:sorry.

I watched it every time I could on HBO and just got the DVD this past weekend. It would be great if they put out a CD with all the wonderful music that was in it. I've looked, but so far have had no luck.

You might find a soundtrack CD somewhere online, like at Amazon, though it wouldn't surprise me if one hasn't been released yet. I got the DVD for Mother's Day from my daughter! : )
