Ralph Fiennes reading The English Patient on CD

Don't know if this is the right place to put this, and a lot of you probably know of this
item already. I found on Amazon.com a copy of Ralph reading the book The
English Patient. I am looking forward to receiving it, I only ordered it yesterday.
If anyone else has listened to his mellifluous voice reading these words, and have
a comment to make, please let me know.

Well Liza, it has arrived and I listened to it yesterday - right through (I'm lucky to have
the time now I'm retired) Brilliant. He didn't miss a beat. Lorraine is right it is
a beautiful reading. I can recommend it to everybody. :)

I just received my CD of Ralph reading The English Patient this morning and loaded it onto my IPOD. It is heaven, heaven. Nobody on earth has a voice as beautiful as Ralph's and to have him reading Ondaatje's poetic writing is just awesome. I purchased an unread copy in the "New and Used" section of Amazon for $7.00. I got a copy of Ralph reading 'The English Patient', from the library today. It brought tears to my eyes when he uttered the first few words!!!!!! Amazing!! I do want to buy it and will get it from Amazon but I find it a bit confusing as there seems to be 3 different versions, so I thought I would get it from the library first.

I couldn't beleive it that some of the words in the book are not on the cd, and this is from the first page!!!!!! Where it says in the book, 'his penis sleeping like sea horse,' It is missed out on the CD. A censored version maybe, but a bit crazy as it's literature!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is this missing form your cd too? I wonder if any more bits are omitted????

What version do you have??

The one I have has Ralph on the cover in the desert, published by Macmillan in 1997. (4 dics)

The other 2 on Amazon are -

Desert view and plane on the cover, published by Macmillan in 2002. ($60)
Naked Hanna at a sink on the cover, published by Bloomsbury in 2004. ($14)

Anyway have listened to the first disc, just about to listen to the next one!!!

Sheraton, my copy has a desert-clothed man with his back to you, in black and white leaning into a dust storm. Mine is only 3 dics, and yes the penis and sea horse are not on mine
either, along with a lot of other descriptive passages, but I guess they had to draw the line somewhere, and it says on the cover that the omissions have been approved by Ondatje. Technology in 10 years might have been able to reduce 4 discs to 3, because I'm
sure he would not have read it twice. His only reading would have been re-arranged to
fit onto 3 discs. :) I bought mine in the new and used section of TEP CD read by RF, for about $9. I would have paid more if I'd had to. :)

ALSO Sheraton, if you go back to page 1 of this discussion you will see that the Girls
have talked about the abridged version etc. etc., that might help also. :)

I have the same version trugannini has. It was re-released last year, but had originally been recorded in 1996.

I`ve read the book and the screenplay and they turned out different
